In 2007, exchange student Meredith Kercher was sexually assaulted and murdered in Perugia, for which Kercher's roommate Knox, along with Knox's then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and their acquaintance Rudy Guede were subsequently convicted. It was a keynote address at an Innocence Project conference that coaxed her back to Italy in 2022, and she took the opportunity to confront Giuliano Mignini, the lead prosecutor who'd sent her to prison.
